The 4th Annual North Platte Area Sports Commission Tanking Race is an exciting adventure in the middle of winter… in a stock tank. It’s up to the weather man to determine if we wear shorts or a parka on this 2 mile trek down the Platte River from Buffalo Bill State Recreation Area to Cody Park.
This event is an annual fundraiser for the North Platte Area Sports Commission and helps fund and support sports tourism driving events into our community each year.

PLOT TWIST: This year, we’re adding a unique twist. There will be challenge(s) along your route where 1 or more of your team will have to get out of the tank. WHICH MEANS YOU WILL GET WET! Failure to complete the challenge(s) will result in loss time.
You will be provided with Tanks, Oars, and Life Jackets. During check-in you will receive your swag, a beer token and coupon for redemption at Pal’s following the race (21+ only) for each team member and plastic bags for cell phones, keys, etc…. Your team captain will have the tank assignment in his or her bag. PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER! It is strongly recommended that 1 or more of your team members wear waders or muck boots. The level of the water fluctuates and there will be sandbars to get stuck in. AGAIN – YOU WILL BE GETTING OUT OF THE TANK AND GETTING WET!
Schedule of Events:
9:00AM Pals will open for business
9:30AM Bus will arrive at Pals Brewing Company to shuttle participants to Buffalo Bill State Recreation Area
9:45AM Registration Check-in
10:00AM Participants are allowed to begin decorating your tank. You will have approximately 45 minutes.
11:00AM Launch will be a staggered.
Once all racers have passed the finish line, you will be bussed back to Pals Brewing Company for awards! Estimated time of arrival 1PM.
All racers must report to Pals for awards as you won’t know who crossed the finish line first this year ;) ;)
Public Viewing Areas:
1. Launch at Buffalo Bill State Recreation Area
2. Viewing at Rivers Edge Golf Course (Hole #1)
3. Finish at Cody Park/HWY 83 River Bridge
**A State Park Permit is required if you are going to drive yourself (or spectators) to Buffalo Bill State Recreation Area. Permits will be available for purchase the day of event on site. A 1-Day pass is $6 for NE Vehicles and a 1-Year pass is $31.**
