SUMMARY:AVCA First Serve
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 AVCA First Serve will feature a star-studded lineup of 10 Division I women’s volleyball teams\, who will play in a series of matches at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln\, Nebraska\, on Aug. 22–24\, and at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls\, South Dakota\, on Aug. 25. \nThe field for this year’s AVCA First Serve includes five teams that made the final eight in the 2024 NCAA Championship\, including three semifinalists and last year’s champion\, Penn State. In addition to the Nittany Lions\, host Nebraska\, Creighton\, Florida\, Kansas\, Minnesota\, Pittsburgh\, Stanford\, Texas A&M\, and Vanderbilt will compete. \n“The AVCA is very excited to bring such a fantastic group of teams to the Midwest for four days of outstanding volleyball\,” says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. “There are so many great storylines\, and AVCA First Serve will kick off what will be another great season of women’s college volleyball in style.” \nOn Friday\, Aug. 22\, the Huskers will face Pittsburgh\, and Stanford will play Florida. Saturday’s matches in Lincoln include Penn State vs. Creighton and Kansas vs. Vanderbilt. Florida\, Nebraska\, Pittsburgh\, and Stanford will be back in action Sunday\, with Nebraska facing Stanford and Florida taking on Pittsburgh. \nIn addition to the marquee teams\, the four days of action will include plenty of firsts: the first matches at new schools for coaches Dani Busboom-Kelly of Nebraska\, Ryan Theis of Florida\, and Matt Ulmer of Kansas. It will be Vanderbilt’s first match as the school relaunches its volleyball program\, and the Lincoln matches represent the first time college volleyball will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The two powerhouses have played each other 50 times since 2008 and the U.S. has won 22 of the matches. \nThe U.S. opened the inaugural Volleyball Nations League last May on the Nebraska campus and went on to win the first-ever VNL title with a 17-2 overall record. \nLarson and Robinson starred in Husker scarlet and cream uniforms winning all-American honors before joining the U.S. Women’s National Team. Larson is a two-time Olympic medalist as an outside hitter\, including silver at the 2012 London Games and bronze at the 2016 Rio Games. Robinson\, who was part of the 2016 Olympic bronze-medal team with Larson\, transitioned to libero during last year’s VNL from her typical outside hitter role and became one of the top liberos in the world. \nTeam USA Meet-and-Greet and VIP Tickets A unique ticket opportunity for the event includes a Team USA Meet-and-Greet on June 2 from 3-4 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. In addition to the meet-and-greet\, the plan includes a chalk talk with Kiraly\, a greeting from Larson\, an autograph session with all the U.S. Women in Lincoln for the matches\, a chance to watch the U.S. Women practice the afternoon of June 2 immediately after the meet-and-greet\, a mini volleyball and an event program.
