DESCRIPTION:The 2025 AVCA First Serve will feature a star-studded lineup of 10 Division I women’s volleyball teams\, who will play in a series of matches at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln\, Nebraska\, on Aug. 22–24\, and at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls\, South Dakota\, on Aug. 25. \nThe field for this year’s AVCA First Serve includes five teams that made the final eight in the 2024 NCAA Championship\, including three semifinalists and last year’s champion\, Penn State. In addition to the Nittany Lions\, host Nebraska\, Creighton\, Florida\, Kansas\, Minnesota\, Pittsburgh\, Stanford\, Texas A&M\, and Vanderbilt will compete. \n“The AVCA is very excited to bring such a fantastic group of teams to the Midwest for four days of outstanding volleyball\,” says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. “There are so many great storylines\, and AVCA First Serve will kick off what will be another great season of women’s college volleyball in style.” \nOn Friday\, Aug. 22\, the Huskers will face Pittsburgh\, and Stanford will play Florida. Saturday’s matches in Lincoln include Penn State vs. Creighton and Kansas vs. Vanderbilt. Florida\, Nebraska\, Pittsburgh\, and Stanford will be back in action Sunday\, with Nebraska facing Stanford and Florida taking on Pittsburgh. \nIn addition to the marquee teams\, the four days of action will include plenty of firsts: the first matches at new schools for coaches Dani Busboom-Kelly of Nebraska\, Ryan Theis of Florida\, and Matt Ulmer of Kansas. It will be Vanderbilt’s first match as the school relaunches its volleyball program\, and the Lincoln matches represent the first time college volleyball will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

SUMMARY:Old West Balloon Fest
DESCRIPTION:Our premiere hot air ballooning event originated in Western Nebraska in the 1980’s and was ‘re-inflated’ in 2015 after many years without an event. This year’s 11th anniversary of the re-inflation will kick off in extra special fashion as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our local Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) by lighting up the skies of their campus with an evening balloon glow. Our festival weekend will be filled with an abundance of family friendly events and entertainment for all ages from the spectacular morning mass balloon ascensions\, a local craft fair\, wiener dog races\, evening balloon glows\, drone show\, and more! \nA 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization\, our event maintains a community-minded mission well grounded in our Western Nebraska roots.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a casual point to point gravel stroll through the rugged High Plains country side from Scottsbluff to Potter\, Nebraska! Flyover Brewing Company is hosting the second annual Flyover to Flyover: A Gravel Party on June 28! We’ll start the day at Flyover Brewing Company in downtown Scottsbluff and make our way to Flyover Brewing Company – Hangar 39 in Potter\, Nebraska.\nWe’ll traverse some of the same gravel roads used by Robidoux and the USA Cycling Gravel National Championships and add in some more gravel to make our way to Potter. Along the route\, we’ll stop at two strategically placed aid stations with plenty of snacks and hydration to fuel the rest of the ride. We’ll arrive in Potter in the middle of Potter Car-Bowl! We’ll be greeted by live music\, food trucks\, custom crew socks for each finisher\, and a complimentary beer for your efforts! Dude Dad will be hosting a Power Wheels drag race and Nowear BMX will be onsite performing a stunt show! \nA shuttle bus and enclosed bike transportation will be waiting to transport us back to the start line in Scottsbluff at 4 pm.
